Lithico Terms of Use

Last updated: 4 October 2026

These terms cover your use of the Lithico app and its identification service. By using Lithico you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. Our Privacy Policy explains what data we collect and how it's used, and forms part of these terms.

Who we are

Lithico is operated by an individual developer in Australia. Contact: pfolvig@gmail.com.

Using the app

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Lithico on devices you own or control, for as long as you comply with these terms. You must not:

If you got Lithico from the Apple App Store, your use is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If that agreement and these terms disagree, Apple's agreement applies to your use on Apple devices. If you got it from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply.

What an identification is

An identification is an estimate based on your photos and on the tests you report, not a certified analysis. Lithico shows its candidates with their uncertainty, and an answer can still be wrong. Don't rely on it for decisions about safety, health, legality or money — including whether a specimen is safe to handle, or what it's worth. If a mineral may be hazardous, the app says so, but treat any unknown specimen with care.

The free tier

Lithico's free tier doesn't expire and doesn't need an account. It includes five scans a month, plus the guided tests, the full field guide, and your collection with export. The monthly scan allowance resets each period and doesn't carry over.

Lithico Pro subscriptions

Lithico Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, available as:

Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. Outside Australia your app store shows the local price.

Fair use

Lithico Pro includes 300 scans a month. That allowance is stated up front because every scan costs us money to process. If you reach it, scanning falls back to the free-tier allowance for the rest of that period. We never charge extra for going over, and guided tests and the field guide stay unlimited.

Your photos and content

You keep ownership of the photos and notes you add. You allow us to store and process them in order to run the service for you, including sending scan photos to our identification provider as described in the Privacy Policy. If you opt in to contributing specimens to the reference library, the Privacy Policy explains how that material is used.

Changes and availability

We may change, add or remove features, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. If we make a change that materially reduces what a paid subscription includes, we'll tell you in the app first. We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version, and material changes will be called out in the app.

Ending your use

You can stop using Lithico at any time, and you can delete your account and its data from Settings. We may suspend access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription — cancel that in your store settings.

Your consumer rights

Our services come with guarantees that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes those rights, or any other rights you have that can't be excluded by law. Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for loss arising from your reliance on an identification, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Lithico Pro in the twelve months before the claim.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia.
