Point your camera at any stone and Lithico tells you what it might be — with a confidence score for each candidate. Not sure yet? Run a guided hands-on test with things you already have at home.
Snap a photo, or pick one from your library. Fill the frame — natural light works best.
Lithico weighs texture, colour and luster and hands back a shortlist, each candidate with its own confidence score.
A streak test, a hardness scratch, a vinegar fizz, a magnet check — step-by-step instructions to narrow it down further.
Save it with notes, a photo and the date. Your field notebook, synced to your account so it survives a new phone.
Every match comes with its own confidence score, so you know how sure Lithico is — and when to reach for a test instead.
Guided streak, hardness, acid and magnet tests, done with things you already own. A photo isn't always enough, and Lithico says so.
350 rocks, minerals and gems, each with its hardness, chemical formula, streak, where it forms and why it matters — written to be read, not just looked up.
Log finds with notes, a photo and the date they were found. It syncs to your account, and you can export the whole thing whenever you like, on any plan.
Birthstones and crystal traditions live in their own clearly marked section — cultural tradition, kept separate from the geology.
Location is off by default. Deleting a photo removes the stored file, not just the reference to it. No training use without an explicit opt-in.
Every identification lands in one of three places, and Lithico never dresses one up as another:
Confirmed — one candidate stands clearly apart, with its confidence score shown.
Narrowed — the tests you ran rule enough out to leave a short set, and nothing left can split them further. That's a real result, not a gap in the tests.
Inconclusive — an honest result, not a failure, with what was ruled out and where to take it from here.
An example of how a result reads in the app:
No result ever gets rounded up to sound more certain than it is.
Lithico creates an anonymous account on first launch. You can identify rocks without ever giving us an email address.
GPS is off by default on every scan. Turn it on only if you want a find's coordinates saved with it.
Removing a photo deletes the stored file, not just the database row. Delete your whole account any time from Settings.
Your collection, scans and test results, downloadable in a plain file — no request needed, no waiting on us.
Photos are never used to improve identification unless you explicitly turn that on. Off by default, changeable any time.
No advertising SDKs, no analytics trackers, no data sold to anyone, for any purpose.
Start free, no account required. Upgrade only if your collection outgrows it.
The 7-day trial on the annual plan converts to a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel first — you'll get a reminder 48 hours before it charges. Paid plans carry a fair-use ceiling of 300 scans a month; free scans are 5 a month, reset monthly, with no rollover and no account required.
Lithico started because I kept picking up rocks on walks with no idea what I was holding. I'm building it as one person, not a company — which is also why I can promise the honesty parts: no invented accuracy numbers, no photo goes anywhere you didn't agree to, and no dark patterns in the subscription flow.

Every result shows a confidence score for each candidate, so you can see how sure Lithico is rather than take a single guess on faith. When a photo alone doesn't settle it, guided hands-on tests are there to narrow things down — and for anything valuable, no camera app should replace an in-person look from someone qualified.
No. Lithico works from an anonymous account created automatically on first launch. You can link an email, Apple or Google sign-in later from Settings if you want your collection to follow you to a new device.
No, and it's labelled that way. Geology facts and crystal traditions live in clearly separated sections, and you can hide the lore content entirely in Settings.
They're sent to OpenAI, which does the visual identification, and stored in your account so your collection can show them back to you. We don't sell them, and they're never used to train anything unless you switch on the reference-library contribution toggle, which is off by default. You can delete any photo — or your whole account — from Settings. Full details are in the privacy policy.
Yes — cancel in two taps from your App Store or Google Play subscriptions, any time. The 7-day trial sends a reminder 48 hours before it converts to a paid subscription.
